USDA National Organic Program nearly meaningless

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

usda-organic-logoA report on MSNBC’s website reveals that an organic certification we should be able to trust may not be trustworthy after all.

According to the report, a program manager named Barbara Robinson repeatedly bowed to pressure from large producers to weaken or override regulations, even allowing synthetics produced with hexane, a neurotoxin, to be added to baby formula that carries the USDA organic seal. Even organic milk, which should require cows to be at least sometimes put to pasture, may be produced from cows continually confined to feed lots.

“It will unravel everything we’ve done if the standards can no longer be trusted,” said Sen. Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.), who sponsored the federal organics legislation. “If we don’t protect the brand, the organic label, the program is finished. It could disappear overnight.” [quoted from MSNBC]

I agree with the report’s contention that the USDA organic label is under serious threat of irrelevancy. Unfortunately, most consumers will continue to trust the seal as the utmost authority of what foods are indeed produced using trusted organic methods, if for no other reason than that they simply don’t have time to research the various organic certifications. Until the time comes that the USDA National Organic Program can be trusted, I will encourage others to visit the Organic Consumer Association‘s site to find out more about what foods can be trusted as organic. And write to your representatives and the Obama administration and demand that the USDA National Organic Program be put back on track and that people like Barbara Robinson be fired, so that the taxpayer money spent on the program is not wasted on a soon to be meaningless logo.

(Maybe the whole USDA National Organic Program, as implemented, is not such a good idea anyway. Read USDA Organic Seal – Killing hometown organic farms in America? for more.)

People just now hearing about NSA email spying.

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Seriously, what rock has this Republi-tard been for the last 8 years? This is not new news, folks!

ScooopThis.Org: NSA has ability to collect and read domestic emails!

Do you guys not recall all the news about the Bush Administration protecting AT&T and other phone carriers if they handed over call records to the government, and about that call center where the asshats where listening in on people (Americans, at that!) having phone sex?

Here’s a small sampling of old news to refresh you retards that haven’t been paying attention to for the last 8 years:

Dear Congresspeople: CO2 will kill your ass.

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Dear Michelle Bachman (R-MN) and Joe Barton (R-TX): CO2 is indeed toxic. If you don’t believe me, please find out about how, in 1986, the CO2 disolved in Lake Nyos in Africa rapidly escaped, killing 1,700 people and 3,500 head of livestock.

You people are stupid. Do you realize how idiotic you look to the rest of America? We all know intuitively, and learned in grade-school science class, that CO2 is exhaled by animals as waste, and it is not good for you in large quantities. Did you see that link above? CO2 at just 8% of atmospheric gas will cause unconsciousness. None of this takes into account the greenhouse effect of excessive levels of CO2.

Remember that if CO2 is not toxic, putting a bag over your head and leaving it there won’t kill you. I’ll wait while the two of you try that.

Maybe the US will split after all.

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Remember how I laughed at that Russian guy for saying the US would split by 2010?

Um, well, Georgia Senate threatens dismantling of USA (Not to mention Texas talking similar fool-ass stuff).

It’s hard to believe that these people are so racist they’d consider the most idiotic thing in over 100 years. Yeah, I said racist. Because they’re not really mad about taxation without representation. Because 1) all but the really rich ones are seeing their taxes cut. Fact. 2) They do have representation. Maybe their guy lost, but they still got their vote. That’s how democracy works. Oh, and guns. I have yet to hear that Obama’s gonna outlaw all guns. I haven’t heard yet that he’s gonna outlaw some guns. (I think outlawing assault rifles is a good idea, as you know.)

It may not go down like the Russian dude said, but I’m starting to wonder.

Man fearing “Obama gun ban” kills 3 police officers, makes case for gun ban

Police: 3 officers killed in Pa. shooting

What else can you say but, “Nice going, dumbass.” Same thing goes to the semi-illiterate right-wingers that somehow think that Obama is going to void the Second Amendment. That’s about as likely as the Pope condemning the Lord’s Prayer.

That being said, I think instances like this and the recent killings of officers in California give a bit more fuel to the fire of reinstating the assault-gun ban. Someone remind me again why you need your own personal AK-47? And if your interpretation of the Second Amendment is that you get to have any and all arms, why not nuclear weapons? Nerve gas? Biological agents?

Yeah, that’s what I thought.

The definition of dysfunctional

Dear Veteran Administration asshats,

No amount of fluff on your website will make up for your heartless, callous bureaucracy. There is this thing called karma. Look it up. Realize that what you people are doing to harm our vets, or fail to do that causes harm to our vets, will be revisited upon you.

Dalai Lama denied visa because it might “shift focus from the 2010 World Cup.” WTF?!

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Dear South African leaders:

WTF?

Sounds like you guys are on your knees in front of your Chinese masters. Losers. Grow some ‘nads and host a real peace conference. Then maybe you’ll be able to admit the real reason you’re not letting HH the Dalai Lama attend, instead of saying that you don’t want the attention taken from an event that’s about a year away.

You guys have totally failed.

Your pal,
Woody

PS: Say hi to my SA friends for me. They’re a lot smarter than you.
